January Events 2011

Performing Live @ Cassegrain Wines, Saturday January 29, 2011

Things will get loud at Cassegrain Wines, as legendary rocker Jimmy Barnes headlines the Red Hot Summer concert this January with special guests Noiseworks and Thirsty Merc. A not to be missed concert experience, the three hot acts will stage a spectacular one-off show in the Hastings at Cassegrain Wines from 4.00pm on Saturday January 29, 2011.

The concert will showcase material from Jimmy Barnes' recently released sixteenth solo album Rage and Ruin as well as hits from his earlier solo and Cold Chisel careers. Barnes is thrilled to be back on the road this January saying, "We had a blast last year, the crowds were huge and being summertime people really know how to party. The tour has been extended this year to include some new venues such as Cassegrain Wines which is great."

Also joining Jimmy Barnes on-stage at Cassegrain Wines will be Australian rock icons 'Noiseworks' who will get the party started with a huge set of hits including 'Take me Back', 'Touch' and 'Hot Chilli Woman', treating Hastings locals to Aussie Rock at its best. Noiseworks front man Jon Stevens said, "January holiday season is the perfect time for great old fashion Aussie Rock n Roll, and we can't wait. We all love Jimmy as a person and respect his place in Rock n Roll history. We have all shared many 'BIG ROCK' occasions together in the past and I'm sure this tour will add to the great stories."

Contemporary music enthusiasts have not been forgotten with crowd favourites 'Thirsty Merc' playing all of their hits along with songs from their highly acclaimed new album 'Mousetrap Heart'. Lead singer Rai Thistlethwayte said, "We know Jon and the boys from Noiseworks, and we've been lucky enough to share the stage once or twice with Jimmy Barnes too, and I'll tell you, these are some of the finest gentlemen you'll meet in Australian rock."

Of the concert John Cassegrain says, "We are thrilled to welcome such big Australian rock acts to Cassegrain Wines this summer. We're kicking off the New Year with our signature Oysters in the Vines event on January 16 and will then follow-up with the Red Hot Summer concert on the 29th so 2011 is already shaping up to be a big year for us."

Sunday January 16, 2011

Cassegrain's award winning wines and renowned locally grown oysters will be celebrated at Cassegrain Wines sixth annual 'Oysters in the Vines' event on Sunday January 16, 2011 from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Set amongst Cassegrain's vineyards, shady tree lined avenues, blooming roses and stunning manicured gardens, 'Oysters in the Vines' will feature Kilpatrick, Mornay and freshly shucked natural oysters from Armstrong Oysters as well as a sumptuous selection of 3 exotic dressed oysters from The Restaurant at Cassegrain Wines, all expertly matched to Cassegrain Wines.

A BBQ in the vines, alfresco menu in The Restaurant, Koolkuna berry ice-cream, and Gypsy Falls coffee provide a variety of other food and treats for adults and children. Live family entertainment on the day will include the Black Magic Big Band, as well as a puppet show and two Jumping Castles ($2 - $3).

Chief winemaker and Managing Director of Cassegrain Wines John Cassegrain says, "'Oysters in the Vines' is a highlight on our events calendar and is such a great way for us to kick off the New Year. Our region produces some of Australia's best oysters so it's gratifying to be able to showcase them matched with our wines."

Local oyster grower Brandon Armstrong from Armstrong Oysters says, "We've been involved in 'Oysters in the Vines' for four years and see this year's event being bigger and better. In previous years we've served about 1,000 dozen oysters at the event and this year we're aiming for more than 1,500 dozen. Armstrong's will be preparing the more traditional dishes of Oyster Kilpatrick and Oyster Mornay this year and opening oysters fresh on the day as well. We will also be serving local cooked Thai Prawn and natural King Prawns. It's great that both locals and visitors alike support the event so well and that we have the opportunity to highlight the region as a premier location for growing Sydney Rock oysters. We've purchased new leases up and down the coast so can guarantee a great oyster on the day."

Steve Foye of Cassegrain Wines will join well-known Hastings oyster grower Mark Bulley in staging a special wine and oyster education class over several sessions from midday at The Restaurant at Cassegrain Wines. Participants will taste oysters dishes matched with Cassegrain wines. Tickets to the classes are only $20.00 per person with spaces strictly limited. Tickets for the wine and oyster education classes are for sale before the event by calling the restaurant on 6582 8320 or available on the day.

Entry to the 'Oysters in the Vines' food and wine event is only $5 per adult (children under 18 are free) with $1.00 from each entry fee donated to the Hastings River District Women's Cricket Assn. Other local charities 'Oysters in the Vines' proudly supports are the Koala Preservation Society of NSW, and St John Ambulance (NSW).

Ample parking is available on-site for the event and guests are encouraged to BYO picnic rugs and chairs to enjoy the alfresco family fun day. Outside food and alcohol are not permitted to be bought into the event.
