A serve of lean beef mince is an excellent source of protein, zinc, iron and vitamin B12 for children. Lean beef mince also contains less than 10 per cent fat and is low in sodium. Kids in particular need plenty of energy for growing, learning and playing and the combination of nutrients in beef mince meals is guaranteed to keep them healthy, active, and less likely to lose concentration at school or during play

Cooking with beef mince provides a great way to ‘hide’ vegetables. Finely chopping mushrooms, or zucchini or grating carrots and adding it to the mince mixture in a bolognaise sauce, a shepherd’s pie base, a burger patty or in meatballs is a great way to ensure fussy kids are eating their veges without them even knowing it!

Recipies for quick and easy Kids Meals

Spaghetti Bolognaise

1.    Cook 1 finely chopped onion in a pan over medium heat for 1 -2 mins.

2.    Add 500g beef mince stirring constantly until well browned

3.    Stir in ¼ cup tomato paste and 425g can of peeled tomatoes. Cover and simmer gently for 20-30 mins. Serve with spaghetti and cheese.

Shepherd's Pie

1.    Brown 500g beef mince in a frypan. Stir in a 450g jar of bolognaise sauce, sliced mushrooms, finely chopped celery, carrot and zucchini. Cover and simmer gently for 20 mins.

2.    Spoon sauce into a pie dish, top with mashed potato.

3.    Bake at 180°C until top is golden, approx 20 mins.


1.    Combine 500g beef mince, chopped onion, grated carrot, an egg, a cup soft white breadcrumbs and salt & pepper and mix well.

2.    Roll into 10-12 balls and toss lightly in plain flour.

3.    Cook meatballs in a frypan on medium heat for approximately 15 minutes or until no longer pink inside.

Savoury Mince Lettuce Cups

1.    Brown 500g beef mince in a frypan.

2.    Stir in a 450g jar of bolognaise sauce with finely chopped carrot, mushrooms, celery and zucchini. Cover and simmer gently for 20 mins.

3.    Serve in baby cos lettuce leaves.


1.    Combine 1kg beef mince, chopped corn, onion, carrot, peas and capsicum with 2 beaten eggs, 2 cups soft white breadcrumbs and 2 tablespoons tomato paste. Mix well.

2.    Press mixture into a greased and lined deep loaf pan. Bake for 40 minutes or until meat shrinks slightly and is firm in the centre and no longer pink inside.

3.    Stand for 5 minutes before turning out of pan.
