Easy DIY detox plan

So you want to cleanse and detox your body?  Below are some easy DIY steps to help you on your way

1.    Turn Your Diet " Brown" - avoid all white foods such as white rice , white bread, white pasta , biscuits , cake etc and introduce wholegrain foods which offer more nutrients and fibre eg brown rice , wholemeal pasta , rye breads . These foods will help you feel fuller and stop you from overeating

2.    Eat More Raw Foods
- such as fruit and raw vegetables (a great way to do this is to purchase a juicer and have a vegetable juice every morning) to help cleanse your body. A favourite of mine is beetroot, carrot , celery and ginger

3.    Look After Your Liver - There is a lot of emphasis placed on the heart but everybody forgets about the liver. Did you know the liver is the largest organ in your body and weighs anywhere from 1.2 -1.5 kg?. It is responsible for regulating your metabolism, and acts as the body's filter by detoxing the toxic substances in your body. Dr Sandra Cabot's book ‘'The Liver Cleansing Diet'' is an excellent read and is wealth of information on this topic

4.    Eat Organic Foods if Possible- These foods contain less pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and saturated fat. Major supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworth's now have a large range of organic products eg chicken , beef, fruit and vegetables, cereals, milk , yoghurt and some canned items

5.    Drink More Water - and less alcohol, coffee and soft drinks. Aim for 8-12 glasses of water per day , a maximum of 1-2 coffee's per day and restrict your alcohol consumption to a maximum of 4 glasses per week

6.    Avoid Saturated Fats
- many overweight people do not eat large amounts of food or calories, it's just that they eat the wrong type of food i.e. fatty foods. This will slow the metabolism, leading to weight gain and cardiovascular disease. Focus on the good fats which are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, which is found in foods such as avocado, nuts, olive oil and fish.
