Baby Tips

Becoming a parent is the most rewarding and challenging experience at the same time. With so much information for you to read, it can be a little overwhelming to take it all in.

To make life with your baby easier and even more enjoyable, here are a few simple suggestions from Nurofen for Children, on some of the daily basics in caring for your baby.

mybaby playtime

Play is not only a time for entertainment and fun. Children learn through their playtime which is an important aspect in your baby’s development. It’s a way for babies to learn about their environment, and develop social and physical skills.

Here are some ideas from Nurofen for Children to encourage your baby’s development while playing:

  • Give your baby a soft rattle with different textures and noises or toys that can be safely sucked and chewed
  • Attach a mobile above your baby’s cot that plays soft lullabies. This will come in especially handy at bedtime
  • From four months onwards, settle your baby in bouncy seats and play-mats. This will bring a new sense of movement in their lives.

mybaby sleeptime

All babies have a different and unique sleeping routine.

Below are some simple steps from our Nurofen for Children Mum's Club resident sleep expert Sheyne Rowley, to help your baby sleep soundly:

  • Establish your baby into a positive sleep routine for day and night. Make sure your baby is in a settling, re-settling and waking up routine
  • Every child’s sleep routine will be different. Don’t copy your friends sleep routine for their baby thinking it will be the same for your baby. Build your own sleep routine for your child based on their individual needs
  • Build your baby’s day around structure. Your child will learn their routine and go to sleep easier knowing it’s their bed time
  • Take into account your baby's environment when they are sleeping. Make sure there is limited noise near their bedroom and the atmosphere is peaceful and soothing for them to nod off

mybaby bathtime

Make a splash at bathtime! Bathtime is not only a time to wash – it can also be a time to relax before bedtime or a time to play and have some fun.

For a fuss free bath time, follow these easy steps:

  • If your baby is frightened by water, share a bath until he/she gets more confident
  • Make sure the water is warm - around 32 degrees C is ideal
  • Support your baby's head with your forearm and bottom with your other hand as you lower him/her into the baby bath
  • Have your baby’s clean clothes, nappy and a large soft towel ready
  • And most importantly, never leave your baby alone in the bath, even if it is for a second!

Mothers always put their child first and usually forget about themselves.

Nurofen for Children knows that mums need some time out. A happy healthy less-stressed mum helps her family become happy and healthy too.

Here are same great ways to make time for you:

  • Use your baby’s sleep time to have a nap, have a luxurious bath or read a magazine. Don’t use it as a time to do the house work!
  • Get out of the house. Make sure you go outside with your baby everyday, even if it is for a short walk
  • Don’t forget your partner. Make time for ‘we-time’ where both of you to enjoy each others company
  • But do what works best for you...
